Are you thinking of a career in science, engineering or perhaps becoming a professional mathematician? If so, studying A level Further Mathematics is going to be beneficial in developing your knowledge to support your skill base and help you succeed. Further Maths increases the breadth of content and looks into the more abstract side of the subject. Your algebraic skills will need to be excellent and you will need to be able to view the fourth dimension (imaginary numbers); it is expected that you will spend a substantial amount of time outside the classroom with independent study. So, if you thrive on solving problems, don't mind spending ages on a question, then you're are going to enjoy this subject.

About this course

You will need at a grade A or A * from higher tier GCSE maths and a minimum of 4 other GCSEs at grade C or above including English.

  • AS/A Levels in Law, Economics, Business Studies, Mathematics or Accounts

  • BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Business/Law/Finance

  • Certificate/Diploma in Financial Studies

  • AAT Accounting Certificate (Level 2) or Accounting Diploma (Level 3)

What are the benefits?

  • Guest lectures from business leaders within our partner organisations and workshops to help expand your business knowledge and awareness

  • A mentor programme where all students receive one-to-one guidance and support from professionals in the sector

  • Free membership of Birmingham Aspire – a network of young professionals aged 16-24 who are considering a career in Professional Services

Additional information

The award is 100% examination based. There will be three exams of equal weighting for Pure Maths and for the applied modules, each lasting 1.5 hours.
