Course programme

The Buckingham MBA is based on our philosophy of adding measurable value. This is crucial to producing graduates who will be in demand by employers. The MBA programme recognises the importance of providing a balance of theory and practice, encouraging students to develop comprehensive analytical skills that can be applied creatively in the real world of business. Unlike many other business schools, we believe strongly in imbuing an entrepreneurial mindset in our students and therefore spend as much time on the challenges to the small and medium sized enterprise (SME) as on the issues facing the large corporation.

From the start of your studies the 12-month programme combines rigorous theory of management with practical issues and applications, including project work with local companies. The core modules cover the key generic areas of business, with an underlying strategic management emphasis. In addition the MBA is structured to offer the opportunity for students to specialise through the selection of options. Current themes include finance, marketing and business operations.

By completing this programme at Buckingham, students gain credit recognition from the Chartered Insurance Institute (CII).

EDUCATIONAL AIMS OF THE PROGRAMME:
• To create a pathway for students to enter Management positions and/or as preparation for further research in management disciplines.
• The advanced study of organisations, their management and the changing internal and external contexts in which they operate.
• To build knowledge and understanding of the complexity of Business and Management in order to improve the effectiveness of decision-making in organisations.
• To develop managers who can contribute a balanced outlook which incorporates an understanding of the economic, environmental and social concerns in the contexts of Managing organisations.
• To develop enduring skills and an appreciation that these skills can be enhanced and developed through lifelong learning. Students will thus be equipped to contribute to work and society, whilst keeping pace with change.
