Additional information
The Applied Business Project (ABP) gives you the chance to work with managers to address real, current business issues in major hospitality companies. In the past, ABPs have been conducted with Kempinski, Nestlé Professional, Mövenpick, and InterContinental. Faculty members and managers collaborate to establish the aims and objectives for each project. You conduct a qualitative and/or quantitative investigation of the given problem, then offer insights and practical suggestions in a management report which you present to the industry partner’s decision makers. Finally, you reflect on your contribution in an individual project based on learning theories. You, the school, and the company all benefit.
Examples of Applied Business Projects with Kempinski
In an ABP with Kempinski, a long-term partner of Glion, MBA students examined how to better motivate and retain employees within the Generation Y demographic, who comprise a majority of Kempinski’s front-line workforce but have tended to be more transient than employees of other generations. MBA students conducted focus-group interviews and data analysis of Gen Y employees in Europe, China, Thailand, and the Middle East. Employees said they could benefit from a career-planning program that would help them grow within the career hierarchy, as well as cross-training programs that would broaden their skill set. This study has led to further ABP projects with Kempinski, including the building of in-house training for GenY employees and a proposal for a social media recruitment strategy to be applied within the company.
