A three day MCA certificated course designed for the person with medical responsibilities of a first aid nature onboard ship/yacht. Teaches use of MCA approved medical equipment. Suitable for: The course can be tailored to the client's specific requirements and type of equipment they have. If this equipment is to be purchased you may want to source it through the Kawns shop. Our training course should be attended by anyone (merchant sailor or yachtsman) who may be required to carry out emergency first aid at sea up to 150 miles. This requirement will be found following proper risk assessment. There are no pre-course requirements.

MCA Medical First Aid
A three day MCA certificated course designed for the person with medical responsibilities of a first aid nature onboard ship/yacht. Teaches use of MCA approved medical equipment.

· Priorities of First Aid
· First aid equipment
· Duties of a First Aider
· Record keeping
· Actions in emergencies
· IVI infusion
· Basic Life Support .CPR.
· Advanced trauma management
· The unconscious casualty
· Death at sea
· Treatment for wounds and bleeding
· Fractures, dislocations, soft tissue injuries
· Treatment for burns and scalds
· Treatment for Shock
· AED
· Dressings and bandages
· First aid equipment
· Gain radio assistance
· Use of Morphia
· Use of minor surgical procedure equipment including suturing
· Transportation of the sick and injured

Assessment
Delegates will be continually assessed by their tutor throughout the course. At the end of the course delegates will be assessed twice in their practical skills (CPR & Injury) by external assessor(s). Upon successful completion of these assessments the delegate will be awarded a MCA Medical First Aid certificate which will be valid for three years.

Is the course accredited?
Currently the Kawns course is accredited by the MCA. This course is certificated and upon successful completion the qualification lasts for three years.

Where can I attend a course?
Open courses can be run centrally in our comprehensive training facilities at Gosport (see below for dates). By arrangement we can provide you with bespoke in-house courses to suit your specific training needs.

How much will the course cost?
Cost per Person: £210 + vat.
