About this course

You will have at least 4 GCSEs at grade C. At least THREE must be from : English Language or Literature/Humanities (History,Geography,RS,Sociology,Psychology)/Business/Science (Core and Additional OR triple)/Maths. Alternatively you will have a DISTINCTION in a Level 2 Diploma OR an NVQ2 OR a CACHE Cert.

Media Production National Diploma
BTEC National Diploma in Media Production provides an exciting approach to TV, film, video, print and digital production combining academic study, practical skills and understanding professional practice. The course prepares students for a broad range of media related courses at HE and for entry into the industry.

What does the course involve?
You will gain near professional skills in digital video production and editing equipment to make tapes from documentary and drama to adverts and music videos. You will also study how the media communicate to the audience, developing skills in the analysis and deconstruction of film and TV programmes, research techniques and report writing. You will learn print production and photographic skills using software like Photoshop in order to make magazine pages, posters and marketing materials. Using digital sound and web design techniques, you will work on making audio, video and stills for internet projects. You will also have the chance to do work experience and meet media professionals.

What will I study?
The National Diploma in Media Production includes modules in these areas: Film Studies, Music Video Production, Production Management, Drama, Animation and Experimental Media, Research Techniques, Web Authoring, Video Production Techniques, Video Production for Interactive Media, Advertising Production, Understanding the Television and Film Industries.

Personal qualities

Former students have progressed to Media careers, including not only television and local radio and newspapers, but also related areas like magazine production, web design and advertising. Some students have gained media related employment with their National Diploma but many others have taken a degree course at University in areas like Video Production, Media Studies, Digital Media and Marketing. For University entry the National Diploma carries the same UCAS points as 3 A levels.
