Who is this course for?
You will be expected to produce video, photography, journalism and graphic page-layout design as well as working on written reports and essays. You will be given the opportunity to express yourself, use new technology and debate your opinions around media and its effects in society. You may have had experience of either journalism, writing your own creative writing and / or experience in video, music production, PR, graphics, marketing or in photography. You should be prepared to work hard to develop new skills and to prepare for Higher Education.

What are the entry requirements?
You must attend an interview and be prepared to discuss your reasons for applying. During the interview you will be asked to give your opinion on a media related subject. Bring to interview any creative writing, research project, photographs or video. This work might include: sets of writings from previous courses or writing produced independently, stories, poetry, lyrics, journalism Photography, Graphics, Web Design, Video or Script ideas etc. If English is not your first language then you would be expected to improve your skills in English, writing, reading and conversation whilst on the course. You will be assesed on your English and Maths skills at interview.
After applying you will have an interview to determine which course is suitable for your needs and abilities.

What qualification will I receive?
LOCN London Open College Network - A well established and recognised National qualification accepted by Universities and Art Schools nationwide. You will be able to apply to HE in the areas of Video, Broadcasting, Media Production, Journalism, Broadcast Journalism, PR, Marketing, Advertising, Graphics, Photography, Interactive Media, Multi-media or Creative Writing.

Progression to Higher Education BA Hons or HND in either Video Production, Broadcasting, Multi-media, Journalism, Marketing, Photography, Media Studies, Film Studies, Advertising, Creative Writing University of Westminster, Univestity of the Arts, University South Bank, University, Thames Valley Lomdon School Of Music and Media, Surrey Institute or into Employment.

What will I study?
You will be working on practical assignments where You will be making videos, publishing a magazine, taking photographs and using computers for graphic design / publishing. You will be expected to develop skills to enable you to produce essays, scripts, reports and presentations on subjects related to the media industry and the effects of the media in society. You will work in groups and individually to develop your personal and creative experiences.

How will I be taught?
You will be encouraged to learn through your own practical and written experiences. You will be supported in this by technical demonstrations and lecturer feedback and guidance to help you produce your practical media products, written research projects and critical writing. There will be technical workshops nad demonstrations, formal lectures, seminars, visiting speakers and learning through a Virtual Learning Environment. You will be taught by a team of Media Proferssionals and Educationalists from Industry.

How will I be assessed?
You will assessed to either Level 2 or Level 3 (Pre-Degree) standard. The Level 3s are the Grades to aim for. You will get unit number credit scores per unit completed. You will need at least 48 Level 3 credits to pass the course and be suitable for progression to University or Art School. The Pass Rate for those completing this course is very high. You will be assessed through Assignments.

What support is available while I am on the course?
You will be allocated a personal tutor from day one of the course to help you organise and manage your studies. You will be given technical support in the operation of technology and lecturer guidance in the production of assignments. The College has extensive learning support services which are available to all learners. These include : Careers advice, Guidance, Learning Support, Language Support, IT Support in the Learning Resouce Centres and Welfare.
