Media Studies, AS-level
AS & A Level
About the Course
This course studies a variety of media such as film, television, web and print. At AS Level you will learn about the key concepts of analysis and begin your journey of understanding how the media work and how you can play a part in their powerful business. You will spend half of the course working on a portfolio of practical products, such as the opening of a fictional film where you will write, produce, shoot and edit. The other half of the course involves the insightful academic approach that Media Studies takes. In this section you will learn how ideology (ideas, values and beliefs) are confirmed and/or challenged in media products. You will learn advanced analysis skills and discover just how large the world of the mass media really is.
At A2 Level you will extend your practical experience by working in television production or film and/or web design. At the end of your two years you will have an extensive practical portfolio of media-related material. You will also develop your academic skills by completing the unit in Critical Perspectives. This will enable you to learn about the media†s relationship with society by understanding web-culture, media and democracy, and the future of the media.
