This qualification aims to:
Raise the awareness of the issues surrounding mental health difficulties
Dispel some of the myths and misconceptions frequently linked to mental health issues
Develop learners knowledge of the rights of those with mental health issues.
This qualification would complement study in a variety of different areas such as Citizenship, PSHE, Healthcare, Social Care, Counselling and Public Services to name a few.

Course programme
1. Be aware of what is meant by mental health -You will define the terms mental health and mental ill health and identify possible causes of mental health difficulties as well as list sources of information on mental health issues.
2. Be aware of some of the social and personal effects of mental ill-health - Explore the percentage of people within the UK that may experience mental health problems. identify effects that experiencing a mental health problem may have on an individual. How Mental health is reported in the media and how any negative effects reported may have on both an individual and society.
3. Be aware of some of the responses to mental health issues - Identify the rights of people experiencing mental-ill health. Identify possible responses that can be made to support an individual with needs and outline factors which can have an impact on whether response will work. In addition, identify where to refer people for further help and guidance about mental health issues and find and explore ways to promote positive mental health.
4. Be aware of cultural diversity in relation to mental health issues - Identify possible causes of mental distress in different cultural groups and give examples of barrier that may exist for different cultural groups accessing services as well as ways to overcome such barriers and outline factors that can help promote positive mental health amongst different cultural groups.
AssessmentEach unit is followed by a written tutor marked assignment (TMA), which is submitted and then marked by your tutor. You will not be required to take an external exam.
