Course programme



Our programme adopts an approach to learning and teaching which focuses on service users using a recovery approach, and encourages students to develop the knowledge, skills and attitudes required for the safe delivery of effective mental health care
All modules integrate theory and practice elements which contribute to admission to the Professional Register
Placements are undertaken in a variety of settings, working with a mentor alongside social workers, occupational therapists, psychiatrists, psychologists and other members of the multi-disciplinary team

The development of clinical skills to support physical health is an integral part of the programme and is supported in practice by mentors and in the excellent Clinical Skills Laboratories by experienced lecturers
Student support is a priority, with each student being allocated a personal tutor and having access to campus-based academic advice services
Learning and teaching are delivered through a variety of strategies including lectures, seminars, and tutorials, often facilitated by service users and carers
IT based exercises and presentations are also used to encourage work relevant skills
Assessment is undertaken through using a variety of strategies including essay and examination and in practical laboratory and clinical situations
