This module is designed to furnish participants with knowledge and skills pertinent to mentorship in the context of their professional practice. The ethos of supported challenge through context specific mentorship enables the development of critically reflective practitioners responsible for development of their own and others practice.

About this course

The aim of this module is to enable practitioners to gain an understanding of the complexities of the mentoring process in order to facilitate effective learning and assessment.

All health and social care practitioners working in an environment where mentorship is used to support learning and assessment. Applicants need to have been qualified for at least one year before accessing this module.

How will I be assessed?

Assessment will be through the production of an integrated reflective portfolio encompassing evidence of both knowledge and skills as applied to mentorship. The portfolio is submitted on completion of the module. A formative opportunity to offer work for consideration in order to receive feedback is offered early in the module.

On successful completion you will:
  • Demonstrate the competencies of a stage two mentor as recognised by the Nursing and Midwifery Council;
  • Mentor others with confidence in context specific areas.
