Manual Metal Arc Welding (MMA) Our welding
training focuses on developing practical welding capability such that
trainees achieve a consistent standard. The courses provide an intense but
comprehensive course of welding instruction for those with some or minimal
welding experience. They are designed to promote practical welding
proficiency and provide trainees with a sound theoretical understanding of
the process.
Our welding bay is fully ventilated with local
and area extraction. On completion of the course trainees will be
expected to be able to produce finished welded joints to an acceptable
standard. Candidates can also be tested to the Welder Approval Standard
BS4872 if required. This is an accepted and widely used standard ideally
suited to maintainers and welders alike.
Practical Work:
-
Arc welding safety - safely identify, assemble, connect start-up and
shut down equipment including gases.
-
Weld bead onto plate, layered beads, lap, edge, closed and open corner
and fillet welds.
-
Using dip and spray transfer methods as appropriate.
Course requirements for all processes:
-
Theory: Multi-Choice Questionnaire
-
Practical: Welds will be tested to the requirements of BS4872
where appropriate. Visual, macro-etch and fracture techniques will be
used.
