At the heart of our course is your practice. We encourage you to relate your developing academic expertise to the provision of care to mothers, babies and their families through learning and critical reflection. You will look at key issues such as current midwifery theory and practice, models of maternity care provision, the politics of midwifery and the changing role of the midwife.

On completion of this programme the successful student should:
1. Have the knowledge and understanding to challenge key concepts and perspectives of the nature of midwifery and its theoretical knowledge base for practice
2. Construct, sustain and use logical and reasoned arguments in all aspects of communication.
3. Demonstrate an in-depth, pro-active and clear understanding of key theories related to midwifery, healthcare and leadership.
4. Undertake critical examination of a range of research methodologies and their appropriate uses.
5. Demonstrate an analytical, systematic understanding and interpretation of current literature concerning midwifery practice
