Course programme
Increasingly nurses are becoming involved in assessing patients who present with illnesses. The skills of history taking, creating differential diagnosis and defining red flags (worrying symptoms) are used to create safe practice boundaries. With a range of common presentations being explored along with the evidence to manage them, the 4 days are delivered with interactive lecture, workshop and skills sessions. Delivered by an experienced nurse practitioner this is a useful foundation or refresher for nurses in general practice, walk in centres or out of hours care.
Learning Outcomes- Be able to take a history and recognise red flags
- Perform a basic examination of key systems
- Follow evidence based guidelines for the treatment of common minor illneses
- Recognise their own levels of competence in practice and know when to refer
