Lessons will be taught from 'Communicate in Greek' by K and F Arvanitakis Vol 1 Units 1-4. This course feeds into Beginners Level 2 [Summer Term 2010] and then Beginners 3 [Autumn Term.

Modern Greek Absolute Beginners level1

Your Course
This course will suit those amongst you who have no knowledge of Modern Greek. Emphasis will be given to topics such as greetings, personal introductions, numbers 1-1 million, countries and professions. Lessons will be taught from 'Communicate in Greek' by K and F Arvanitakis Vol 1 Units 1-4.
This course feeds into Beginners Level 2 [Summer Term 2010] and then Beginners 3 [Autumn Term 2010]
During the Absolute Beginners course you will take a short internal assessment in Listening. This will help to prepare you for the OCR Asset language test that will be taken at the end of the first year of study.

Learning Outcomes
By the end of the 10 week course you will have been given the opportunity to:
· Communicate at a basic level in the above topic areas
· Read simple notices and short texts relating to the above topics
· Write simple phrases in Modern Greek

Your Tutor
Nicolas Voliotis holds a BA in Ancient and Modern Greek Literature and a BA in History/Archaeology from the University of Athens. He was also awarded an MA and a PhD in Education from the University of Sheffield. He taught Modern Greek Literature in Greece for twenty years and has been teaching Modern Greek Literature and language to GCSE and A level in England for several years. He has also taught Modern Greek at Cambridge University.

Day and time: Thursday 7-9 pm

Tuition fees: £ 95

Method of payment: Fees for short courses (10 weeks or less) to be paid in full at enrolment and for long courses (12 weeks or more) fees of 50% can be paid at enrolment plus 50% as a cheque. Course places cannot be reserved without receipt of both payments.

Please note that there are no classes during half term Monday 15th - Friday 19th February 2010 unless otherwise stated.
