Modern Greek Improvers (term 3)

Your Course
This course will suit those amongst you who have some knowledge of Modern Greek, (equivalent to 5 terms). The course aims to develop the skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing in Modern Greek. It enables students to understand native Greek speakers and help them in practical conversation. All students will be registered for the OCR Asset Language (Breakthrough) award in Listening. The assessment will take place within a normal lesson. The main text used for this course will be'Communicate in Greek'by Kleanthis and Froso Arvanitakis, vol. 1, units 20-24.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of the course you will have had the opportunity to cover the following main topic areas:
· Meeting friends
· Weather and climate in Greece with reference to the seasons and months of the year
· Letting a house
· Birthday celebrations in a Greek bar
· Watching a comedy on Greek television
· In a post office
· In a bank, making withdrawals and deposits
· General information about contemporary Greece
You will also have covered important areas of grammar:
· Personal and interrogative pronouns
· Verbs in the imperative and conditional mode
· The comparative and superlative
Your Tutor
Nicolas Voliotis holds a BA in Ancient and Modern Greek Literature and a BA in History/Archaeology from the University of Athens. He was also awarded an MA and a PhD in Education from the University of Sheffield. He taught Modern Greek Literature in Greece for twenty years and has been teaching Modern Greek Literature and language to GCSE and A level in England for several years. He has also taught Modern Greek at Cambridge University.
Day and time: Wednesday 7-9 pm

Tuition fees: £100
Method of payment: Fees for short courses (10 weeks or less) to be paid in full at enrolment and for long courses (12 weeks or more) fees of 50% can be paid at enrolment plus 50% as a cheque. Course places cannot be reserved without receipt of both payments.

Please note that there are no classes during half term Monday 15th - Friday 19th February 2010 unless otherwise stated.
