The past is all around us in our lives. History is fascinating and a worthwhile subject to study for its own sake. It is also important because it is only when we have some appreciation of what happened in the past ? when we look at the causes and effects of historical change, and the part played by individuals, groups or great economic and social forces ? that we can understand the present.

Modern History
What will I learn?
The past is all around us in our lives. History is fascinating and a worthwhile subject to study for its own sake. It is also important because it is only when we have some appreciation of what happened in the past ? when we look at the causes and effects of historical change, and the part played by individuals, groups or great economic and social forces ? that we can understand the present.
What qualifications do I need?
We would normally require candidates to have the standard sixth form entry requirements, including GCSE English at grade C or above and History at grade B or above.
Career opportunities:
It is valued by universities and employers because of the skills and techniques that are learned in History. Thus any number of professions/careers attach importance to the subject, not just those in which the actual content of the subject is used. As a traditional rigorous and academic subject, History is valuable for careers in the civil service, all aspects of business, the law, education, and even in professions linked to medicine.
