About this course


Candidates should have a strong interest in the area of body repair, refinishing or body fitting. You will need to be dedicated and committed to your study and be responsible for your own learning. You will be required to attend an interview with the work based learning team and have already completed an NVQ Level 2 in Motor Vehicle Body Repair, Refinishing or Body Fitting.
Students on this course are required to be employed in a suitable work placement with a body repair motor company and should normally have four GCSEs (grades A*-D), including English, maths...

Course programme



The Motor Vehicle Body Repair or Body Fitting Advanced Apprenticeship programme is designed to give you the relevant training and education required to become a successful employee within the motor industry. Learning through practical and theory sessions at the College is teamed with work-based experience and training in order to achieve a level 3 qualification.


What will I learn?
The course combines developing your practical and theoretical skills to produce workmanship of the highest quality. The type of work carried out in the workplace will determine the choice between body fitting or body repair. Students complete seven units including units relating to good housekeeping, health and safety and maintaining positive working relationships. Additional units include:



  • Remove and Replace Structural Body Panels and components.

  • Repair Structural Body Panels and Components

  • Rectify vehicle Misalignment

  • Carry out Complete Vehicle Refinishing Operations

  • Rectify Paint Defects

  • Remove and Refit Major Mechanical and Trim Items


Optional unit:



  • Repair Glass Fibre Panels (Body Repair only)


As part of the Apprenticeship framework you will also study Employment Rights and Responsibilities, and Functional Skills/GCSEs in English and maths, plus ICT

What can I do next?

Following further training and development, career pathways may include progression to roles such as insurance assessor, automotive loss adjuster, or visual damage assessor or possible progression to an Advanced Apprenticeship.

Considering an apprenticeship?

if you do not already have one.
