Motor Vehicle Maintenance & Repair - IMI Technical Certificate

Introduction:
This `hands-on` course will provide an in depth understanding of the motor vehicle repair industry. It provides the opportunity for you to gain an in-depth understanding of motor vehicle system layouts, components, repair procedures, servicing and health and safety related issues. Throughout the programme you will be encouraged to acquire the skills and knowledge necessary to undertake maintenance and repair tasks, as well as recognise the service requirements of a range of vehicle components. This is a full Level 2 course.

Study Mode & Location:
This one year part-time evening course lasts for 3.5 hours per week. It will be held at Preston College, Fulwood Campus, St Vincent`s Road, Preston, PR2 8UR.

Course Content:
The course covers:

  • Electrical Systems.

50% of course modules are practical and 50% theoretical. All modulues are taught in our extensive and well equipped classrooms and workshops.

All sessions are delivered in a manner which provide you with the maximum opportunity to develop and hone your skills.

Assessment:
You will be assessed via a combination of observed assessments of practical activities, on-line testing of knowledge and a portfolio of evidence. Practical assessments will take place when you feel confident enough to undertake an observed practical task. The theory and principles of motor vehicle maintenance and repair will also be assessed on-line via the IMI website.

Careers & Progression Opportunities:
Successful completion of this course allows progression to an:

  • IMI Technical Diploma Level 3.
  • HNC/HND or Foundation Degree.


Additional Equipment:
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is mandatory in workshops (ie steel toe-capped boots and overalls). These can be purchased at a reduced rate from the College at enrolment.

Introduction:
This course is aimed at adult students requiring formal qualifications to progress in the Motor Industry or students with the desire to enter or change career into the industry. The programme is designed and delivered to ensure that students are educated to the high standard expected in the Motor Vehicle Maintenance & Repair industry. The course will provide the opportunity for all students to investigate vehicle systems and components and gain an understanding of how these systems and components are constructed and function. Throughout the two year programme students will be encouraged to acquire and demonstrate the skills and knowledge necessary to undertake a range of maintenance and repair tasks as well as recognising the service requirements of modern vehicles. Practical training takes place throughout the programme. The theory and principles of vehicle maintenance and repair are formally assessed on line following Awarding Body procedures.

  • Electrical Systems and Associated Technology


The course is delivered on site in our extensive and well equipped garage's. The modules are delivered 50% theoretical and 50% practically allowing all students the maximum opportunity to develop and hone their skills in their chosen and preferred learning style.

Assessment:
Students are assessed via a combination of observed assessment of practical activities and formal on line testing of underpinning knowledge.

Careers & Progression Opportunities:
Students can progress from this course as follows: Motor Vehicle MI Tec Dip L3, to HNC/HND or Foundation Degree.

How To Apply
You will need to have an informal interview with a Adult Admissions Adviser.
Many courses have limited places so please enquire as soon as possible. Following interview, the earliest you may enrol is mid-June.
