Course programme

This course further develops the skills needed to cover the in-depth technical needs for today’s motor vehicle repair industry, including the diagnosis of non-complex system faults. If you are progressing from the Level 1 Diploma in Motor Vehicle or already have some experience in working with motor vehicles then this could be the course for you. Practical work is reinforced with a theoretical understanding and provides students with essential knowledge for becoming service technicians working on light vehicles (cars and vans) in all types of garages, dealerships and maintenance depots.
As a result of increasing technological complexity in the industry, there is a need for qualified craftspeople, technicians and truly professional motor vehicle engineers. Employment in the motor vehicle industry covers a wide range of activities, from maintenance and servicing to management of retail and fleet operations. Many students progress to an apprenticeship as a way of entering into the industry.
Level 2 IMI Diploma in Light Vehicle Maintenance and Repair
(IMI Awards are the retail motor industry’s first choice for automotive qualifications and accreditations).
One year
You will cover a diverse range of topics throughout your course. A selection of unit titles is shown below:
Students also gain a broad knowledge and understanding of health and safety in the workplace. The student’s knowledge is assessed by set practical assessments in a motor vehicle workshop environment, set online multiple choice testing and by assessments set by the College.
