About this course
Candidates should have a strong interest in the area of mechanics. You will need to be dedicated and committed to your study and be responsible for your own learning. You will be required to attend an interview with the Work Based Learning team and be asked to complete basic skills assessments in literacy and numeracy, followed by a paper based trade assessment and already have an NVQ Level 2 in Motor Vehicle Maintenance and Repair. The Motor Vehicle Maintenance and Repair Advanced Apprenticeship is designed to give you the relevant training and education required to become a successful employee within the motor industry. Learning through practical and theory sessions at the College is teamed with work-based experience and training in order to achieve a level 3 qualification.
Course Content
The course combines developing your practical and theoretical skills required by vehicle technicians. On completion of the course you will have mastered the mechanical skills needed for work on various vehicle systems and have an understanding of the related technology. Units include:
- Good Housekeeping, Health and Safety
- Maintaining Positive Working Relationships
- Diagnose and Rectify Vehicle Engine System and Component Faults
- Diagnose and Rectify Vehicle Chassis Systems and Component Faults
- Overhaul Mechanical Units
- Diagnose and Rectify Vehicle Transmission and Driveline System Faults
- Diagnose and Rectify Auxiliary Equipment Electrical Faults
As part of the Apprenticeship framework you will also study Employment Rights and Responsibilities, and Functional Skills/GCSEs in English and maths, plus ICT.
What are the entry requirements?

What can I do next?
Following further training and development, career pathways may include progression to roles such as service manager, workshop manager, senior technician or possible progression to a City and Guilds programme.

but note that you will need to do some research to find an employer willing to take you on as an apprentice
if you do not already have one.
