The entry requirements for the awards are assessed on an individual basis, taking into account each applicants existing academic/vocational qualifications and interest in working in the motor vehicle sector. You will also attend an interview and take an Initial Assessment.

Course Level One

Description
These courses have been designed as pre-apprenticeships and are endorsed as Technical Certificates by the motor industry. The course will prepare you to progress to higher levels or enter the industry. During the course you will have the opportunity to strip, inspect and carry out fault diagnose on real vehicles.

Course Length
One year per level (full-time)

What will I study?
A variety of different topics will be covered and include motor vehicle technology fundamentals on all the systems on modern motor vehicles. This will include vehicle inspection, vehicle maintenance and how vehicle systems work. Systems covered include engines, transmissions, steering and electrics.
You will also learn functional skills which are English, Maths and ICT as required.


How will I learn?
You will learn in state-of -the-art workshops fully fitted to the highest industrial standards and hi-tech classrooms with Smartboards and interactive diagnostic equipment. The courses are taught by a combination of theory and practical tasks to give you a good understanding of the systems involved. You will also learn functional skills which are English, Maths and ICT.

How will I be assessed?
By practical assessment and online tests.

Where could it lead?
The awards provide an excellent foundation for an Apprenticeship, BTEC First Diploma or possibly the BTEC
National Diploma. All of these courses are currently offered
at Stephenson College.
