About this course
Candidates should have a strong interest in the area of Motor Cycle Mechanics. They will need to be dedicated and committed their study and be responsible for their own learning. Students will be required to attend an interview with the Work Based Learning team and be asked to complete basic skills assessments in literacy and numeracy followed by a paper based trade assessment. Course programme
This course is designed to give you the relevant training and education required to become a successful employee within the motor industry. Learning through practical and theory sessions at College is teamed with work-based experience and training in order to achieve a level 2 qualification.
The course combines development of practical and theoretical skills at College, together with experience gained in the workplace. Students complete six core units and a choice of optional units, the choice being decided between the tutor, student and employer.
Course content
Motorcycle Maintenance and Repair Diploma Level 2 units include:
- Good Housekeeping, Health and Safety
- Support for Job Roles
- Materials, Fabrication, Tools and Measuring Devices
- Routine Motorcycle Maintenance
- Motorcycle Internal Engine Systems
- Motorcycle Fuel, Ignition, Air and Exhaust Systems
- Motorcycle Electrical Units and Components
- Removing and Replacing Motorcycle Chassis Units and Components
Optional unit
- Knowledge of Motorcycle Preparation and Inspection
As part of the Apprenticeship framework you will also study Employment Rights and Responsibilities, and Functional Skills in English, maths and ICT.
What are the entry requirements?
Candidates should have a strong interest in the area of Motor Cycle Mechanics. They will need to be dedicated and committed their study and be responsible for their own learning. Students will be required to attend an interview with the Work Based Learning team and be asked to complete basic skills assessments in literacy and numeracy followed by a paper based trade assessment. It is compulsory for all students to attend a four day taster session, which normally takes place in the summer. Students on this course are required to be employed in a suitable work placement, carrying out motorcycle service and repair, and have four GCSEs (grades A*-D), or equivalent, including English, maths and science.
What can I do next?
Following further training and development, career pathways may include progression to roles such as motorcycle diagnostic technician, service adviser, or maintenance controller.
