On ATC Driver Training

Provider description
ATC was founded by Kenny Roberts in 1983 when he recognised the need for a driver training programme aimed at the most vulnerable group of road users - the company car driver.

Kenny utilised his extensive experience in driver education to formulate a training approach which achieved results in improving safety for individuals and fleet running costs for companies. An achievement when at the time the majority of people who were being trained were neither convinced of the benefits, nor committed to the objectives of driver training.

The original company, Advanced Tuition Car, became ATC as the business developed, and in 1987 ATC established its current head office at North Weald Aerodrome.

The facilities at the Aerodrome were ideal for the development of off-road courses, the first of which was Skid Car, bought in1988. ATC's Skid Car was the third to be imported into the UK and from the outset its advantages over other skid training methods were apparent. ATC purchased a second skid car in 1998 to cope with the high demand for this type of training.

In response to the changing needs and demands on organisations, ATC has developed over the past four years a risk management approach in the delivery of its training solutions. Working in partnership with its clients, ATC has developed the expertise to interpret fleet and incident data in order to identify and deliver effective risk management solutions. As a result of this, ATC has designed its risk management programme - Fleet Risk Solutions, which offers organisations a holistic approach to improving driver safety and reducing costs.

So, from modest beginnings, ATC has developed to become one of the leading and most innovative independent driver training providers and risk management companies in the UK. It now remains one of the longest standing fleet solution providers in the industry. This has largely been due to ATC's determination not to compromise its original vision of providing the best and most effective driving solutions in the industry by supplying "off-the peg" driving solutions to suit all.
