To provide a thorough overview of contemporary systems and standards used for recording/distribution of digital video and audio, metadata and systems control

Structure of the course
Practical and theory sessions covering the following elements:
Quantisation, sampling and aliasing
Digital audio recording and distribution standards and protocol
Ethernet data transmission standards
ADSL applications for access and diagnostics
Encoding and interface standards ITU-R 601 and 656
Embedding and de-embedding of audio and auxiliary data
Digital sampling systems for MPEG-2, DVCPRO etc - 4:2:2, 4:2:0, 4:1:1 etc
Video and Audio compression standards
Digital VTR and hard disc systems and menus overview - SD & HD, 24 & 25P
