About this course

The entry requirements for this course are a qualified health or social care practitioner, who has a degree or equivalent experience. We look for candidates to have a background in health or social care  in order to be eligible for the programme. We may also consider lesser qualifications if you have sufficient relevant work experience within the industry. Course programme

The course aims to encourage independent and autonomous learning, along with confident teaching and communication techniques. You'll build on your existing knowledge and skills to a point where you’ll be confident in your ability to participate more actively in your chosen field, particularly in the area of policy development and communication. With the support of our teaching staff, you'll learn to interpret complex materials independently and creatively, reflect on your learning, critically examine approaches to effective team building, and exercise judgement in relation to policy, workloads and professional practice. You'll develop a combination of theoretical and practical skills, including critical thinking when considering the issues associated with practice, knowledge and application of research methods, and efficient approaches to time management, prioritisation and workload planning. The applied education element of this course allows all nurses undertaking it to record the teaching qualification with the NMC. The course is also recognised by SEDA (the Staff and Educational Development Association), and accredited by the HEA (Higher Education Academy). The School of Nursing, Midwifery and Social Care is one of the largest in Scotland, providing education and training to nurses and midwives, both at pre- and post-registration level. We offer a supportive environment to encourage your personal and professional development. Based over three years, the course is conducted as a blended learning process, involving a combination of lectures, tutorials, online study, workshops and independent study.
