Course programme
Mode of delivery: Part time, blended learning. Students are employed within NHS Departments and released to undertake academic study. All teaching and learning materials are hosted online. You will attend on-campus teaching for:
- First year: three
weeks in term 1, three days in term 2, three days in term 3
- Second year: one week in term 1,
three days in term 2, three days in term 3
- Final year: one week in term 1, three days in term 2, three days in term 3

- Once you have been selected by the NHS to take this course you will be required to complete an Aston University online application form.
Entry requirements:
- Entry requirements are set by the NHS.
- Applicants must posses a first or upper second class honours degree or equivalent in a life Sciences based subject e.g.
- chemistry,
- biochemistry,
- pharmacy,
- pharmaceutical technology,
- chemical engineering,
- pharmacology,
- physiology,
- physical science subject
- For applicants who obtained their degree outside the UK, the degree / qualification must be deemed to be at least of equivalent standing.
- Applicants whose first language is not English will be required to provide evidence of an English language qualification. The Department of Health has introduced a new career pathway for Healthcare Scientists. Students are employed within NHS Departments and released to undertake academic study.
This includes clinical science training to provide an appropriately trained workforce to work in the NHS. This requires the education and training of practitioners in the division of neurosensory science. This division is made up of 3 pathways:
- Audiology
- Neurophysiology
- Ophthalmic & Vision Sciences
Students undertake common learning throughout the programme but also have specialist topics in year two and three.
