About this course
Minimum entry requirement for a Masters degree is normally an Honours Degree or equivalent. Candidates who do not meet this standard will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
Not necessary to have a first degree in Int. Politics or related, but evidence that you can complete the course successfully is needed.
Non-native English speakers are required to take a test of academic English language proficiency with required minimum levels equating to an IELTS score of 7.0; a TOEFL score of 610 (paper based test), 100 (internet based test) or 250 (computer based test) with an essay rating of 5.5

This degree provides students with a specialist introduction to the advanced study of Welsh Politics. In particular, the programme is designed to facilitate a critical awareness of the broader context within which contemporary Welsh politics exists. This includes reflection on the process which led to the establishment of devolved government in Wales, and also consideration of how politics and governance has changed under devolution. Wales' experiences are also compared to those of other non-state nations, particularly those elsewhere in the European Union.
This degree provides opportunities for students to develop and demonstrate knowledge, understanding, qualities, skills and other attributes in the following areas:
- The political, economic, cultural and social context of politics in Wales today
- The key institutions and actors in contemporary Welsh political life
- Central debates and controversies in Welsh politics and in the study of Welsh politics
- Comparisons of Wales’ status and political experiences with other non-state nations
- The influence of the European Union on developments of politics and governance in Wales
