About this course
Entry requirements(typical offer) You should have either: at least a lower second class honours degree (2.2) in a relevant subject; or an honours degree in another field with relevant work experience.
For applicants who have not studied their previous qualifications in English a TOEFL score of at least 575 (written)/230 (computer-based) or an academic IELTS score of at least 6.5 will be required.

About the course
The School of Business and Creative Technologies (BCT) focuses on multidisciplinary research encompassing business, management, information systems, communications and associated technologies. This course looks to help you develop your managerial skills through an understanding of information tools, whilst gaining an insight into the music and creative industries related to developing a creative project.
Teaching staff are professionals with substantial experience in the music and creative industries and many are also active researchers in our taught areas. The flexible nature of the course means you have the option to focus on areas that are of particular interest or relevance to your professional development.
You will be taught through a mix of lectures, seminars, tutorials and presentations. There will also be ‘Guru’ lectures by guest speakers from the music and creative industries world who will give you the benefit of their personal insights and extensive professional experience.

Our MSc programme is both academically rigorous and practical. As with all University of Bolton courses it is reviewed and updated regularly to ensure that it reflects the latest thinking and research. We use progressive teaching methods, which challenge you – giving you the knowledge and skills to cope in a fast moving market and a changing world.
A key feature of our teaching and learning strategy is to support your development as an independent learner. The emphasis is on personal study, research and individualising module content to address your personal areas of interest within the field of study.
Dissertation (60 credits)
The dissertation offers you the opportunity to undertake an in-depth investigation of a topic or issue that is of particular interest and relevance to your professional work and development. Selection of research methodology and topic is a matter for discussion and negotiation between you and your supervisors.
The dissertation represents a major piece of extended reflection, research and writing. An essential feature of this process involves you, with the support and guidance of your supervisors, taking responsibility for the outline, development and final construction of the research thesis against the background of the module guidelines and criteria.
For the MSc, you must successfully complete six modules and the dissertation (180 credits).

Careers and professional development
This course is designed to give you relevant skills and knowledge to help you and/or your business develop and grow. The mix of theoretical and applied skills will give you a broad understanding of the principles and practice of business management in the music and creative industries. Future graduates can go into a variety of creative areas, such as recording, artist development, live event management, self-publishing and consultancy.
On successful completion of the MSc programme many graduates also choose to continue their studies by registering for a PhD.
