2. Course description This Level 1 Diploma in Music provides opportunities for you to explore and develop your creativity, while enhancing self-confidence and revealing the potential career demands and opportunities within the music industry. This programme is designed to offer a wide range of music experiences, developing the foundation skills and theory in the following: • Rehearsing• Performing• Recording• Producing• Sequencing• ComposingYou will use a variety of equipment, materials, skills and techniques and gain experiences in presenting work to an audience. In the first term you will be introduced to the fundamental elements that develop and support a music, performing and production project. The second term provides you with an opportunity to specialise in two of the areas listed above, while developing the essential skills needed to communicate ideas to an audience. Finally, during the third term you will carry out a final major project in an area of your choice, using skills you have developed throughout the programme. The Level 1 Diploma is made up of seven units and prepares students for progression onto the Level 2 Music Diploma or other Level 2 programmes.

3. Entry requirements Priority will be given to those aged between 16-18 years old. No formal qualifications in Music are required, but you will need to show an interest in the subject area. ? 3 GCSEs at grade E or above (including English and Mathematics at grade 2 or above), or relevant Entry Level qualification. ? Satisfactory interview and audition (to assess motivation and ability).? Satisfactory reference or school report.If English is not your first language, you may need an assessment before enrolling on this course. Equipment required You will need to purchase some materials for the programme, full details of which will be provided at enrolment. 5. Assessment method Students are assessed through a range of practical projects, coursework and a final major project.
