Course programme

During the first year of your studies you will study: Principles of Musical Sound Studio Recording and Engineering Music Sequencing Techniques Sound Synthesis and Sampling Audio Mastering and Manufacture Music Business in the 21st Century Music In Context Creative Arts Research Skills During your second year, modules will also include: Music Studio Production Critical Music Listening Computer Based Music Production Public Performance Technology Preparation Process and Production in the Creative Arts New Media Technology Live Sound Systems Specification and Operation Work Based Experience Over the two years, students will also study in a range of industry based contexts including, experiential placements, live client briefs and two industry-based assessments. The first of these will be in a professional recording facility, Modern World Studios and the second based at the College's New McMillan Theatre complex with professional sound reinforcement company, M5 Audio. Throughout the course students will develop the knowledge and skills in the technical aspects of music, audio and new media technologies, enabling them to use the appropriate tools and techniques to integrate music audio and graphics in a creative context. Students will also develop a broad understanding of recording and performance technologies, computer communication, digital media technologies and software development, standards and protocol for music and audio products. By the end of the course students will also be able to use the tools and techniques required for music and audio content creation, production and processing to a professional standard and also develop a broad understanding of the music industry and working practices.
