Grade 2 keyboard skills and Grade 2 music theory. Students will be given a keyboard and music test at enrolment. Students should also be able to play an instrument to Grade 2 level or above.

This course introduces you to some of the skills and techniques required by the studio musician, whether as a composer, an arranger, a producer or a sound engineer. The course centres on the practical use of recording equipment and music software and takes as starting points three areas of study: recording, sequencingand arrangement, history and anaalysis. You are encouraged to gain an understanding of the social, cultural and historical impact of music technology and recording, and to listen to a range of classical and contemporary music, recognising and assessing how musicians use music technology. The course is also supported by visiting performers, workshops and external visits.
ENTRY RECOMMENDATIONS:
Grade 2 keyboard skills and Grade 2 music theory. Students will be given a keyboard and music test at enrolment. Students should also be able to play an instrument to Grade 2 level or above.
ASSESSMENT:
Recording, sequencing and composing are assessed through projects; other aspects through written exam.
PROGRESSION:

This subject leads directly to careers in music studios, including recording, producing and sound engineering; also into composing and arranging using music technology, broadcasting, computer music technology, advertising, film and other electronic communications media.

PLEASE NOTE FOR 2010 MUSIC TECHNOLOGY WILL BE OFFERED AS A BTEC QUALIFICATION. THERE WILL BE TWO PARTS:



LEVEL 3 BTEC NATIONAL CERTIFICATE - 1 AS level equivalent
LEVEL 3 BTEC NATIONAL SUBSIDIARY DIPLOMA - 1 A level equivalent
