Aim This 1 or 2 year course is designed for people who are either working in or looking to work in the music industry, specialising in music production, sound recording and music business.
Content In the first year you will learn the basics of:
· How to plan, record and mix multi-track sessions
· Mixing and editing sound in a software environment
· How the freelance music industry works
· Music technology in performance.
During the second year of the course you will build on and extend those skills to include:
· The sound and music industry
· Sequencing using digital audio workstations
· Composing music
· Operating live sound.
You will also have the opportunity to study a set of broad based media units that allow you to explore other aspects of the media industry such as sound engineering, record production and multimedia sound.
You will be expected to build a portfolio of evidence suitable for assessment by tutors throughout the year and for presentation to the awarding body at the end of each year.
Extra information This course also includes the additional qualification of either Level 2 or 3 in Access to Music ie. Rockschool which includes rehearsing and performing as a vocalist, guitarist, bassist, keyboard player or drummer.
Progression/career opportunities Students may progress to Higher Education courses or find employment in a wide range of media and music organisations.
Screening
Students will also be screened (in the College) and must achieve literacy and numeracy at the level appropriate to the course.
