Fully preparing you for a Musical Theatre performance career this intensive three-year course will develop your natural talent for theatrical performance, along with the technical, artistic and creative skills necessary for a successful musical theatre performance career.

The first year provides a thorough grounding in all aspects of theatrical performance quality, musicality, breath control and dance technique. This lays the foundation for more rigorous practical training in the second and third years.

The Musical Theatre programme expands on the core knowledge attained in the first year of study with modules encompassing:

Students on the Musical Theatre programme MUST have a committed and dedicated approach to training showing focus, hard work and discipline.

Acceptance onto the programme is by audition at the start of the second year, continuous internal assessment and a second audition at the beginning of the third year. Auditions will require students to perform both a song and a monologue of their choosing.

Dedicated students have the option of including the ISTD FDI & CDE modules into their timetable.

In order to graduate students must achieve:

  • ISTD Advanced II in Classical Ballet, Tap or Modern Theatre

and

  • Lamda Gold in Musical Theatre

and

  • Lamda Gold in Acting

Entry to Merseyside Dance and Drama Centre is by audition and interview with the Principal.
