NATIONAL CERTIFICATE IN CONSTRUCTION
Entry Requirements
An interview is required.
Minimum of four
GCSE passes at Grade C or above which must include Mathematics, Science
(with Physics) and a subject involving the descriptive use of English, or
EdExcel (BTEC) First Diploma in Construction, or other qualification
considered suitable by EdExcel (BTEC).
Description
The course
is specifically for students who are in full time employment and/or to
study on a PART TIME basis and is designed to provide them with a
comprehensive introduction to the construction industry. It is suitable
for those wishing to follow a career in a variety of chosen fields
including, Architecture, Building Management, Building Surveying, Quantity
Surveying, Land Surveying, Civil Engineering, Building Control etc.

Delivery of the course is by formal means with 12 units
required for an award.

Where a course is aimed
towards an assessment/examination, it is expected that all students will
enter for the qualification.
Method of Assessment
The means
of assessment varies between subjects but generally is determined by
either course work, group and individual assignments including externally
set integrated vocational assignment (IVA), presentations and end tests of
a practical and written nature.
Progression
Successful
completion of the course will enable students to have a basic
qualification to continue their career in construction as a technician.
Students may continue their studies on either a part time or full time
basis by progressing to the courses leading to either the Higher National
Certificate or Diploma. Alternatively, students may progress to a Degree
in their chosen discipline.
