Suitable for: Competent swimmers over the age of 16 years. It is recommended that prospective students should be able to perform the following tasks prior to attending a course: You should be fit and healthy. Able to swim 50 metres in one minute or less. Able to swim 100 metres on their front and back without pausing. Able to jump or dive into deep water. Able to surface dive to 1.5 metres depth. Able to climb out of a pool unaided

Course Content

What's this course for?
This course is recognised by pool operators across the country. The course is 38 hours minimum contact teaching time and normally run over 6 consecutive days, extended course are available. The qualification comprises two units.

What's in the syllabus?
Unit 1

The principles of lifesaving and swimming pool supervision, this is made up of four elements which are externally assessed.
Rescue skills, lifeguard underpinning subject knowledge, Cardiopulmonary resuscitation and First Aid skills.

Unit 2
The application of supervision and rescue in a swimming pool. This unit is made up of seven elements and is continually assessed by the course tutor.
Understanding of Pool Safety Operation Procedures.

Is there an exam?
Yes, this course is externally assessed for unit one and continually assessed by the course tutor for unit 2. The assessment for unit 1 does not include a written test.
