About this course
Standard Grade 3 in English or equivalent is essential (& SG 3 Biology - desirable). Applicants will be considered on an individual basis, but must demonstrate a genuine interest in working with animals. This is often evident from the work experience (voluntary or other) of the applicant.

Course Information:
The Working with Animals course helps you develop the knowledge and understanding of the biology of animals. It helps you gain the practical skills needed to carry out duties in the care of animals. You will also gain skills related to the business side of animal care employment e.g. customer service skills, record keeping and basic financial recording. In addition, you will develop your core skills (which are transferable into any work situation) like communication, numeracy and information technology. Part of the course involves residential placement at Barony College near Dumfries and every student is required to participate in an animal care work placement as part of the course.
Further Study:
Successful completion of the course will enable you to progress on to the HNC in Animal Care at Barony College or other Scottish Colleges.
Career Opportunities:
Work as an assistant in kennels, catteries, stables, animal welfare organisations or the retail animal sector.
