What Will I Learn?
This course is designed to give you basic sound engineering skills as quickly as possible. You will learn how to operate equipment that is most commonly found in professional studios today, by practically making music. You will also build up your musical knowledge, learn about employment in the industry and build on your basic skills. The course lasts 12-14 weeks, by the end of which time you should feel comfortable about using a music studio and more confident in your own abilities.
The NCFE Level 2 Certificate in Music Technology is a Level 2 course equivalent to 2 GCSEs and is designed to give you a foundation in creative technologies.
What Will It Be Like?
This is a fast paced course and requires excellent attendance and commitment to get the best out of the environment.
There will be opportunities to work using your own initiative and create a piece of original music using computer software. Your knowledge will be expanded in true 'workshop' style lectures. The studio group environment is devoted to practical learning by building as many musical pieces as the schedule allows, then mixing them for a final group CD.
How Much Time Do I Need?
This is a full-time course. Weekly sessions will add up to 12-14 hours of contact time and requires homework to be completed in addition to scheduled sessions.
Do I Qualify?
You need 4 GCSEs (or equivalent). Including Maths at grade D or above and English at grade C or above and some IT ability.
How Much Is It?
Students aged 16-18 on entry to the course are not required to pay course fees. Means tested funding is available to adults on low incomes and can also be based on previous qualifications – this is dealt with on a case by case basis.
What Can I Do Next?
This course will give you the confidence and skills to progress onto the Level 3 BTEC National Diploma in Music Technology.
