This is a study programme aimed at those seeking a career in the sport and leisure industry including working as a Lifeguard. The course is a mixture of practical and theory units.
The study programme will also qualify you as a Lifeguarding, which is an essential qualification for employability in the leisure industry. The course also includes work experience, where students will go out on placement at one of the various leisure centres across the city. There will also be a number of field trips including an optional residential.
Students on this study programme may not have achieved a grade A-C in GCSE English or Maths, so they will do either a GCSE resit or Functional Skills to help them achieve a grade A-C grade.

Profiling Sports Performance You will develop a wide range of skills that will benefit you in a career in sport. These will include: communication, organisation, leadership, teamwork, presenting, researching, customer service and emergency first aid. Applicants must be willing to work flexibly with their placement in order to achieve their work experience hours. A minimum of 4 GCSE's at grade D including English and/or ideally Maths or equivalent (eg Level 1 Functional Skills). Or satisfactory completion of a Foundation Learning programme at Level 1 with a minimum of 37 credits.
All applicants must have a genuine interest in working in sport, be prepared to participate in physical activities, work in a team, overcome personal challenges and have an enthusiastic approach to learning. All applicants must pass a swimming test before enrolment onto this course and be willing to work flexibly with their placement in order to achieve their work experience hours. The course is ideal for gaining employment via an apprenticeship into the sport and leisure industry. If you pass with Merit or Distinction, you can progress to a Level 3 Extended Diploma or a level 2 in fitness instruction. There is also the opportunity to enter into an apprenticeship.
