Is it for me?
The course will provide you with what you need to acquire and practise a range of photographic skills and techniques at an advanced level leading to further study and motivation towards career development.
This course provides an appropriate foundation in preparing you to undertake possible employment opportunities within the photographic/digital imaging industry. It is also a suitable course for you if you are already working within a related industry and wish to gain a formal qualification (equivalent to an A-level) to enhance career prospects.
You will be working with industry standard software and computer equipment as well as producing high quality digital prints on some of the latest inkjet printers.
During the course you will receive information, advice and guidance on possible career paths and progression onto higher level courses.

What do I need?
NCFE Level 2 Photography or GCSE Photography or appropriate industrial experience in the use of Photographic/Digital Imaging applications.

What will I study?
Course activities include sessions on how to use appropriate camera equipment, lighting sources, studio based photography, photographic materials and services as well as industry-standard digital imaging applications such as Photoshop.
Other elements covered include understanding the visual image, key design principles and the development of employment skills.

Where will I study?
Baltic Campus

You'll be based at our fantastic £39million Baltic campus on the quayside. The campus has a prime location on Gateshead quayside, and state-of-the-art facilities including a Jacuzzi, gym and sauna, a 200 seat theatre, state-of-the-art classrooms, training kitchen and restaurant, refectory, bistro and vending areas.

How will I be assessed?
You will be assessed through the development and completion of your own portfolio of production work and a written critical evaluation dossier. These will be internally assessed by the tutor and externally moderated by an NCFE verifier.
The work you carry out will be through assignments and projects set by and negotiated with the course tutor on an ongoing basis throughout the course. There is a final exhibition within the college, which is used to showcase the skills that you have learnt on the course. There is no formal exam.

How will I be taught?
Much of the teaching will be practically based around activities geared toward the development of technical and creative skills and the completion of production-based work.
Opportunities are provided for the development of new skills and for personal areas of interest in photographic topics and practices.

What qualification will I get?
NCFE Level 3 Photography.

Can I go onto further study?
Yes, you could progress onto an NCFE Creative Crafts (Photography) Level 3. You could also progress onto an AS/A-level Photography course. Alternatively you could consider going onto a full time level 3 programme such as ND Graphics, ND Multimedia or ND Fine Art.

What are the career opportunities?
Possible career paths include Professional Photography, Media Production and Multimedia Design.
