Certificate in Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector (CTLLS) - is the required qualification for learners who wish to teach on Public Funded or Further Education courses within an Associate Teacher Role. It is the next step from the Award in Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector (PTLLS).

CTTLS comprises of 3 mandatory and further optional units. The full qualification is equivalent to at least 24 credits on the new Qualifications and Credit framework. Each unit describes the standards of a broad area of work that a competent person should be able to perform.

Each unit will be assessed with two assignments a Theory and a Practical assignment. There are no formal written examinations.

Assessment can be at either level 3 or level 4. This will be determined with each learner following initial skills assessment and discussion.

Learners must complete 30 hours of teaching with all supporting documentation (course plan, session plans, examples of resources etc.) This may be with a group of learners or one-to-one. The learning must be subject to a quality assurance process.

Learners will be observed three times by a member of the teaching team during the course. They will need to meet the standards set by Lifelong Learning UK for an "Associate Teacher" in these observed sessions. They will need to demonstrate development of their practice during the period of the course.
