Course programme
A unit certificate is issued denoting successful achievement of each unit. A certificate award is issued on completion of the two units and the practical assessment. The NEBOSH General Certificate is accepted by IOSH (the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health) in meeting the academic requirements for Technician Membership of IOSH (Tech IOSH). It is also accepted by The International Institute of Risk and Safety Management (IIRSM) for associate membership.
The programme has formal lectures, class work activities and 50 hours self-directed study. Tuition takes place in the classroom but will have both theory and practical elements to support learning. Homework is given for revision purposes. Group work and presentations will contribute to classroom continuity and peer support.
The practical examination is carried out on Highbury College premises and involves a physical inspection of a workplace to assess the hazards. It is designed to test delegates' ability to complete a health and safety assessment and produce a management style report on their findings.
Delegates are assessed with written examinations for each of the two taught units.
