The NEBOSH
National General Certificate is the
recommended pre-requisite for
entry onto the NEBOSH National Diploma in Occupational Safety & Health and
the entry requirements for the Woodland Grange/Oxford Brookes University
Diploma in Health & Safety Management.
Course StructureThe
NEBOSH National General Certificate consists of three units, each
separately assessed. Delegates may choose to take all of the units at the
same time, or at different times. On successful completion of each unit, a
unit certificate will be issued. However, to achieve the NEBOSH National
General Certificate award, delegates will need to pass each of the NEBOSH
units in a five-year period.
The three units are as follows:

Unit NEBOSH NGC 1 - Health & Safety Management

Unit NEBOSH NGC 2 - Controlling Workplace Hazards

Unit NEBOSH NGC 3 - Practical Assessm
Learning outcomes

Identify common hazards in the workplace and advise on appropriate
remedial action

Advise on appropriate action to minimise fire risk and develop fire
procedures

Assist in preparation, review and monitoring of safety policy and
procedures including pro-active and reactive strategies, training
audits and safety committees.

Investigate accidents, and other incidents, prepare reports making
cost effective proposals to prevent recurrence.

Identify main requirements of legislation and codes of practice.

Maintain records and information sources to advise management

Communicate effectively on health and safety matters including the use
of reports.

Undertake effective workplace inspections and recommend cost effective
remedial action

Describe human and organisational factors affecting health and safety
performance assessment e.g. health & safety culture

pre-entry for the NEBOSH Fire Safety and Risk Management Certificate and
NEBOSH Construction Certificate
