NEAPOLITAN WILD LEMON GROVES
For many The Neopolitan experience was an unforgettable one; the combination of its breathtaking panorama of deep turquoise waters contrasted against the white rocky terraces, wild lemon trees, rustic and real charm of life in and around Naples and sometimes it appears as if time has stood still.
Certainly where food is concerned, it remains some of the most celebrated foods in Italy. The tale behind this magical place is complicated, romantic and deeply absorbed in history as over the centuries the Moors, Spanish, Normans and French all ruled Naples each influencing and contributing to the Neapolitan region’s gastronomic culture. The result is a unique cuisine that continues to be halfway between refined and popular folk style. The importation of the “New World” crops in the sixteenth Century; potatoes, peppers, beans, coffee and especially tomatoes, all ingredients that are frequently used in Neapolitan cooking today, was fundamental for the creation of the Amalfi region’s traditional dishes. This workshop brings alive some of the best foods from the Amalfi region and also its neighbouring Island Sicily. It is also an opportunity to sample and cook with the official fruit liqueur of The Amalfi coast; limoncello made from the sfusato lemons.
