Aims and Objectives
In order to gain full accreditation at New CLAIT you are required to demonstrate competence through practical assessments in four computer applications. The most popular of these applications are Word Processing, Spreadsheet and Database. You will obtain the skills necessary to successfully complete the OCR New CLAIT examination.
Target Audience
Beginners to computer applications.
Unit 01 - Using a Computer
Identify and use a personal computer/monitor, keyboard and mouse (or equivalent), locate and access data on a computer, input small amounts of unformatted text/numbers and symbols, print a document using the default printer settings, manage documents and data.
Unit 02 - Word Processing
Identify and use word processing software correctly, use an input device to enter and edit text accurately, select fonts and simple text formatting, format basic paragraph and document properties, manage and print word processing documents.
Unit 03 - Electronic communication
Identify and use e-mail and browsing software, transmit and receive e-mail messages and attachments, navigate the World Wide Web, use search techniques to locate data on the Web, manage and print electronic documents.
Unit 04 - Spreadsheets
Identify and use spreadsheet software correctly, use an input device to enter and edit data accurately, insert, replicate and format arithmetical formulae, use common numerical formatting and alignment, manage and print spreadsheet documents.
Unit 05 - Databases
Identify and use database software correctly, use an input device to enter and edit data accurately, create simple queries/searches on one or two criteria, present selected data sorted alphabetically, numerically and by date, manage and print database files.
Unit 06 - Desktop publishing
Identify and use appropriate software correctly, set up a standard page layout and text properties, import and place text and image files, manipulate text and images to balance page, manage publications and print composite proofs.
Unit 07 - Graphs and charts
Identify and use appropriate software correctly, produce pie charts, line graphs and bar/column charts, select and present single and comparative sets of data, set numerical parameters and format data, manage and print graph and chart documents.
Unit 09 - Web pages
Identify and use appropriate software correctly, import and place text and image files, amend and format web pages, insert relative, external and e-mail hyperlinks, manage and print web pages.
Unit 10 - Presentation graphics
identify and use presentation graphics software correctly, set up a slide layout, select fonts and enter text, format slides, manage and print presentation files.
Unit 11 - BBC becoming webwise
Identify the current range of digital technologies for, Internet access and their functions, Use Internet navigation software, user interfaces and software applications, Develop understanding and awareness of the range of Internet services and tools, Identify the potential application of the Internet for an individual's circumstances.
