To provide a solid grounding in the principles of assessing noise at work risks. Anyone completing this course should understand the requirements of the Noise at Work regulations and feel comfortable about how to go about meeting these. Subjects include: Noise at Work legislation, the basics of sound, noise monitoring, risk assessments, practical steps, revision and 25 question test paper. Suitable for: Health and Safety Managers, Foremen and Supervisors in Industry/Construction/Engineering/Manufacturing, Union Representatives, Site Managers, any person responsible for staff, particularly in a workplace with a high noise risk. No prior learningh on the subject is assumed, and therefore the course is ideal for beginners.

About this course

There are no pre-requisites for taking this course. It can be taken by someone new to noise assessments, or by someone who has some previous experience. This is a distance learning programme, which is supplied via CD-Rom, and can be completed at home or at work at a time to suit the delegate.

Anyone completing this course should understand the requirements of the Noise at Work regulations and feel comfortable about how to go about meeting these.

There are no pre-requisites for taking this course. It can be taken by someone new to noise assessments, or by someone who has some previous experience.

The course will be covered under the following topics.

1) Noise at Work legislation including the new regulations that came into force in April 2006.

2) The Basics of Sound - what levels of sound are considered dangerous and what our duties are if these are present in our workplace.

3) Types of Noise Meters and how these can be used to determine noise exposure levels.

4) Risk Assessment, including different case studies, demonstrating assessing what the risks to hearing are based on noise levels and work patterns.

5) Practical steps that can be implemented to safeguard the hearing of employees.

6) Summary and revision.

7) 25 question test, which is returned for marking.

All students will be given the opportunity of further assistance and 1 retest if required as part of the course. All successful students will receive a certificate of completion.
