The Smallpeice Trust’s Nuclear marine engineering course provides a valuable insight into the fascinating world of nuclear engineering.
What will I be doing?
• Learning how a pressurised water reactor works, as well as the propulsion and electrical generation systems used on a sea going vessel
• Attending a series of practical workshops and lectures
• Learning about radiation and gamma ray spectroscopy in a laboratory environment
• Visiting the Submarine Museum, HMS Alliance and ‘Action Stations’ at Portsmouth Historic Dockyard
• Finding out about careers in designing,building, maintaining and operating a complex engineering plant
• Taking part in extra-curricular sporting activities and a formal dinner in the Wardroom at HMS Excellent
• Staying on board a type 82 destroyer vessel to gain a real insight into life at sea
• Developing your teamwork, communication, problem solving and time management skills
* Only British Nationals wil be accepted onto the course on the basis that the course is being run at a Military establishment.
