2. Course description This course is suitable for students who are clearly focused on progression into nursing and related disciplines, such as midwifery, paramedic, social services and welfare work, and provides opportunities for progression into Higher Education. The course will help students develop a range of skills and techniques, personal qualities, and the attitudes essential for working life. Programme content includes units such as: - Developing Effective communication - Equality, Diversity and Rights - Health,Safety and Security - Development through the life stages - Health Education - Fundamentals of Anatomy and Physiology - Sociology and psychology - Caring for Children, Young People, and older people - Personal and Professional Development in Health Care - Nutrition for Health and Social Care - Public Health - Supporting medication in social care During the first year of study the students will potentially complete 9 units, 6 of which will be submitted for the introductory diploma which is an A level equivalent with UCAS points. Progression to year 2 is dependent upon achieving an overall merit from the first year units, and dependent on whether 6 or the full 9 in year 1 was completed the programme will be fixed at either the diploma (12 unit/2 A levels) or the extended diploma (18 units/3 A levels). All of these carry appropriate UCAS tariff points and individuals wishing to progress to university are encouraged to look in advance at the course entry requirements to ensure that they will meet these from both GCSE and tariff point perspective.

3. Entry requirements A minimum of five GCSEs at grade C or above, which must include science and at least one from either English Language or maths. Progression is encouraged from full level 2 qualifications such as the First Diploma where students are attaining at least a merit grade profile and successfully completing their full course footprints supported by an appropriate tutor reference. For all applicants positive DBS checks are required to secure a place on the course and to ensure they meet the requirements to professionally practice in the subject area. 4. Assessment method This course is continually assessed by a combination of written tests, project and assignment work and demonstration of competence in a range of practical skills.
