The Nutrition programme aims to develop graduates who are:
eligible to apply for registration as Associate Nutritionists directly or via submission of a portfolio of evidence to meet the requirement of the UK Voluntary Register of Nutritionists (UKVRN) as set out by the Association for Nutrition (AfN).
reflective nutritionists with the requisite knowledge, understanding, practical application of understanding and professional attributes consistent with those expected from newly qualified nutrition graduates.
equipped with the core competencies that are essential to enable them to function independently and effectively in the complex, changing environment of the contemporary workplace.
committed to the enhancement of health and wellbeing through inter-professional collaboration with other health care professionals and prepared to make a contribution to the educational, cultural and social life of Liverpool, the North West and beyond.

2017 Entry Requirements
The offer level for 2017 entry will be BCC - BBB at A Level or DMM - DDM at BTEC Extended Diploma or 104 - 128 new UCAS tariff points.
In addition applicants require an A level Grade C or above in a relevant science subject and GCSE grade C (Grade 4 or above in the new grading system) in Mathematics (or equivalent).

<div id="tab2" class="tab grid_8 alpha hide-on-small" style="display: block;"> <div class="courseLinks hide-on-medium-down"> <img src="/media/liverpoolhope/styleassets/cssimages/media,975,en.gif" alt="print Icon" style="width : 24px; height : 24px; "> <span><a href="javascript:window.print()">print this page</a></span> <span class="st_sharethis_custom" st_processed="yes"><a href="#">share this course</a></span> </div> <h2>Curriculum</h2> <ul> <li>Nutrition degree topics are selected in accordance with the core competencies of the Association for Nutrition (AfN).&nbsp;</li> <li>BSc Single honours Nutrition graduates are eligible to apply for registration as Associate Registered Nutritionists (ANutr) via direct entry.</li> <li>Nutrition as combined honours (i.e. Nutrition in combination with another discipline) graduates are eligible for registration as Associate Registered Nutritionist (ANutr) via submission of portfolio.</li> </ul> <p>Students would study either Nutrition as combined honours (i.e. Nutrition in combination with another discipline) or Single Honours (i.e. BSc Nutrition).&nbsp;</p> <h3>Year 1</h3> <h4>Foundations of Human Nutrition</h4> <p>All Nutrition students (single and combined honours) will study a 60 credit, year-long course called Foundations of Human Nutrition, plus a 60 credit course from another subject.</p> <p>The Nutrition course consists of:</p> <ul> <li>Introduction to science of nutrition – What is food to us? – Adequacy &amp; excess of nutrients</li> <li>Water &amp; Fluid balance – energy balance</li> <li>Macronutrient (carbohydrates, proteins &amp; lipids), Alcohol &amp; non-nutritive substances &amp; micronutrients (vitamins &amp; minerals)</li> <li>Nutrient composition of foods – Assessment of dietary intake</li> <li>Food safety and hygiene – Nutrition and catering</li> <li>Theoretical &amp; practical aspects of dietary modifications</li> </ul> <p>These topics are selected in accordance with the core competencies required for registration as an Associate Registered Nutritionist (ANutr).</p> <h3>Year 2</h3> <h4>Explorations in Human Nutrition</h4> <p>All Nutrition students (single and joint honours) study the core topics that the Association for Nutrition (AfN) considers as appropriate for a Nutrition degree. The core topics include.</p> <ul> <li>Assessment of nutritional status (dietary, anthropometry, laboratory and clinical)</li> <li>Nutrition deficiencies &amp; toxicities</li> <li>Nutrition and lifecycle (early age, adolescents, older adults, pregnancy and lactation)</li> <li>Introduction to nutrition epidemiology and public health nutrition</li> <li>Contemporary issues in human nutrition (nutrition in relation with genetics, religion, ethnicity, lifestyle, drugs, other nutrients &amp;socioeconomic factors)</li> </ul> <h3>Year 3</h3> <h4>Advanced Studies in Human Nutrition</h4> <p>All students will continue with the study of the core topics as defined by the AfN.</p> <ul> <li>Nutrition in relation with physical activity and sport</li> <li>Obesity &amp; weight management</li> <li>Clinical nutrition (i.e. nutrition &amp; diabetes, hypertension, cardiovascular diseases and cancer)</li> <li>Advance public Health Nutrition (international, national &amp; local food policies, devising local initiatives)</li> <li>Food choice &amp; behaviour modification of dietary intake</li> <li>Food supply, formulation &amp; sustainability</li> <li>Nutrition ethics and code of practice</li> <li>Personal development planning, self-assessment and reflection, careers in nutrition</li> <li>Nutrition projects (Contribution to university mission, final year nutrition research - dissertation)</li> </ul> <h3>Assessment</h3> <p>This course includes a range of assessments so that students can demonstrate their competence in a variety of situations and formats.
