Unit One: Explore principles of healthy eating (R/505/2204)

On completion of this unit you will:

  • Understand how diet is linked to health
  • Understand the components of a healthy diet
  • Know the nutrients in food and their role in maintaining health
  • Understand the principles of healthy food preparation

Unit Two: Consider nutritional needs of a variety of individuals (J/601/2535)

On completion of this unit you will:

  • Know the nutritional needs of children and young people
  • Know the nutritional needs of older people
  • Understand special dietary requirements
  • Understand barriers to healthy eating

Unit Three: Use food and nutrition information to plan a healthy diet (M/601/2545)

On completion of this unit you will:

  • Understand food labelling
  • Understand food additives
  • Apply principles of healthy eating

Unit Four: The principles of management (L/505/2203)

On completion of this unit you will:

  • Know the risks associated with ineffective weight management
  • Understand how body image may influence weight management
  • Know about effective methods of weight management
  • Be able to plan a short-term weight management programme for an individual

Unit Five: Understanding eating disorders (M/503/0999)

On completion of this unit you will:

  • Know about different eating disorders.
  • Understand the connections between food and feelings.
  • Know how to access information and support relating to eating disorders.

Study Hours

This is only an approximate figure and is dependant upon how much time you can dedicate to your studies and how well you grasp the learning concepts in the course material. Furthermore, at the end of each lesson there is a question paper that needs to be completed and returned to your tutor. You should allow at least 1 - 2 hours of study to complete each question paper.
