ENTRY REQUIREMENTS:
4 GCSEs at D Grade, a good educational background and the ability to communicate verbally and by written work. You must have enthusiasm and interest in the fashion industry, the ability to work as a member of a team, good manual dexterity and because of the demanding nature of the profession, reasonably good health. To gain this professional qualification will require hard work, commitment and self motivation.
NVQ level1 is currently a requirement for 19+ students who intend to progress onto N.V.Q.2 Hairdressing.
NVQ 1 is an introduction to hairdressing covering the role of -Assisting the stylist in a salon environment . This is a one year part-time course starting September to July..
WHAT WILL I LEARN?
NVQ 1 is made up of 6 units covering Health & Safety, teamwork, shampooing, washing off colour, assisting in the salon and blow drying hair.
Successful completion at this course will enable you to be interviewed for progression to Hairdressing NVQ level 2.
NVQ 2 is a foundation programme covering all basic hairdressing services. This is for anyone who has already gained an NVQ 1, or has the equivalent salon experience or is returning to hairdressing as a career and needs to go back to basics. (Subject to available places.)
This is a two year full time course two days per week starting September to July.
WHAT WILL I LEARN?
NVQ 2 is made up of 9 units covering Health & Safety, positive impression, client care, teamwork, shampooing, cutting, colouring, perming and styling hair.
HOW WILL I LEARN?
You will learn by Skills Workshops and Practical learning in our salons working on -real clients . Task Based Learning enables you to gain an understanding of essential theoretical knowledge via research, oral questioning, VTCT independent test papers and the production of written assessed evidence in the form of a portfolio.
Tutorials & target setting will support your learning and achievement.
Work experience in a salon placement is encouraged in order to gain an insight into this demanding profession.
WHAT CAN THIS COURSE LEAD TO?
Successful completion of NVQ Level 1 & 2 will enable you to apply for an interview for Hairdressing NVQ Level 3.
Entry requirement for the Level 3 programme is a salon placement, working as a junior stylist in the industry.
